Everything about it was a farce. And, as with anything that's predicated on unstable circumstances, it's temporal existence is questionable.
Interesting question though, would it be better to wound everyone equally or to wound heavily a few? True, everyone would survive in the first instance, but in the latter situation, everyone might be slowly dying. Would it be better to have a few survivors left or none at all at the end?
It's certainly acerbated by the fact that through the machinations of the alpha hombre, support will be scant or non-existant.
But really, there's no point in further contemplation. It's reached fruitation, and they who have sown the seeds have to live with the products of their labour.
