The whole romance angle blows. It just BLOWS, and this is in a BAD WAY. There's practically nil chemistry between Jean and Scott. Sure, I can see they care about each other, but it's not the same as being in love. Bobby and Rogue. Very sweet, there, but... how is their romance important, eh? And I don't recall anything like that ever happening in X-men history. Please enlighten me if this is otherwise... And I swear, I will boycott X3 if they are going to work any Storm-Nightcrawler romance.
And if you've watched the movie, you'll probably be asking yourself: Why is heck is Jean Grey doing outside the plane? She blew up two missiles while INSIDE the plane. (Granted, it was with a lot of effort...) Where. Is. The. Continuity? I don't like the way she turns into the Phoenix. The phoenix form definitely works in explanation for her apparent resurrection...but... she doesn't become the Phoenix like that. I can't stomach it after watching the cartoon. How are they going to explain her change in character?
And is it me, or did they totally exploit Anna Paquin's sexuality? Every scene she appears in contains gratuitous shots of her cleavage. I understand that you want to draw the male-folk, but it so cheapens her character. But come to think of it, maybe it does work in a Roguesque way. Mature Rogue yes, but not innocent, nubile (ack) Rogue in X2. DOOL fans, all that footage of Rogue's bust made me think of Sami. She has a huge bust too.
Mystique. I loved you, adored you in the X-men cartoons, even the X-men evolution one. You were sleek, you were beautiful, and I'm an admirer of female aesthetics. They turned you into a naked, blue freak. I wish you had said more. I will always worship your cartoon image though.
Okay. I did like the exchange between Night Crawler and Storm about anger and faith. It's kinda true. Some people live on anger, and well, in that way, I guess people can live on faith too. I shouldn't have to do so much thinking for one film, but I'm a literature student. Non-analysis is no longer an option.
And I'm going to watch the Matrix tomorrow. May the movie have mercy on my brain.
