Yes, watched Star Wars Episode 3 today. Apart from the cheesy screen-wipe scene transition effects, the cinematics were fabulous. I loved the various different environments depicted during the intergalatic war - gorgeous scenery, even if all CGI. The story-line is everything to be expected, though yes, we all agreed that the dialogue was stilted, and at best, only humourous. Emotional scenes fell flat, not least of all due to Hayden Christensen's acting skills. He's like Keanu Reeves - only not as convincing. The best emo scene I have to say was done quite nicely by Ewan Mcgregor after Obi-wan defeated Anakin. Very touching there. Natalie Portman's speech prior to being attacked by Anakin comes a close second. Watching love scenes between Anakin and Padame however, is like watching a case of unrequited love. She loves him but he at best only lusts for her. The only kind of looks he gives her seem to be more lecherous than loving. I'm sure it's not for lack of trying, because Natalie Portman is hot. (Or so I'm told.) The actor portraying Darth Sidious/Palpatine brings a malicious glee to his role and his winning of Anakin over to the dark-side is almost a carefully thought-out courtship. Yet ultimately, Darth Vader is but a tool, and it was the Jedis' loss that they did not know how to control him better. There is great teenage angst in Anakin and no one wants to play with him... and I empathize. It's hard to be loyal or close to people who exclude you and do not give reasons why. The Jedis' failure to recognize this led to their downfall - their fear of his explosive feelings shut him out, and not realizing that he was still ultimately also a young adult as well as a Jedi compromised their understanding of his feelings. How falliable the Jedi are, and how human in the end. Their strict principles are perhaps what lead to the destruction of the Jedi Order in Episode 3. Ok, after that we went for dinner, and after dinner... the arcade! The highlight THAT venture has to be when we were playing this army-esque shooting game. We only lasted for one stage, but it was kinda fun... Four-person shooting action! (Paraphrased) Don: I have this first player theory.. The first player always get targetted. Mel: You're just upset that you got beat by girls. Me: Next time we can switch places lor... Then we'll see... Anyhow, I was promoted to sergeant, in a nice officer's uniform. Bwahahaha. But I must say that I spent most of my time hiding and shooting randomly, so it was quite a surprise to me. Didn't last long after the rest of my team died though... so... well. It was fun. Arcade playing is expensive though... so I guess it's best as a once in a while thing. :: nimezs @ 12:33 am [+] :: ... :: Sunday, May 15, 2005 :: ![]() Joey puts 'em down even online... ![]() :: nimezs @ 1:04 am [+] :: ... :: Saturday, May 14, 2005 :: Theory #1: Somebody killed Melvin. For money. Story as follows: Melvin was spotted wandering blurrily around with a wad of cash in his hand. After following a bunch of a smokers around back (which was highly suspicious in itself since Melvin does not smoke. Doubly suspicious was the fact that another non-smoker participant, Alvin, followed them to the back. Minutes later, all the smokers straggled back in ones and twos into the clubroom with the visible absence of Melvin. We theorize that Melvin was killed for money, and we shall never see him again. Timmy confirmed this theory for a fact, doing a remarkable impression of a seedy gangster. He is destined for two-bit roles. Theory #2: My boyfriend is a drug smuggler. Story as follows: Often goes missing for the purpose of "passing something to [his] friend". Since item of exchange is never discussed openly nor friend ever named, suspicions abound this highly secretive act. Doubly suspicious is the fact that this act is also used as excuse not to meet girlfriend, yet when queried, no admitted evidence of other behaviour apart for the act of "exchange". (read: much time that cannot be accounted for) This behaviour is also expressed vicariously in dating sims - uses drug pushing as a convenient means of earning lots of money. However, chosen actions in dating sims cannot be generalized to real life since he has failed in the other behaviour of showering me with diamond rings. :: nimezs @ 10:54 am [+] :: ... :: Sunday, May 08, 2005 :: I can't remember if I'm mentioned this before. You have no fear of jealous boyfriends rampaging to kick your anonymous butts. A slew of suitors could march up to my door proposing marriage and he would not quirk a brow. Or if your fear is of my reaction to you - I take all comments to be tongue in cheek, therefore, please feel free to respond with your name or a readily identifiable nickname. I will not rampage to kick your butt either. Maybe be vaguely cold and hostile, but seldom physical action from me, unless I *really* like you. There's nothing that's more frustrating than anonymous posters. Especially since I don't see what you have to hide from. If you hate me, at least allow me the courtesy to know who you are so our hate can be mutual. If you don't hate me but must say something that will anger me, I must say this in response: I try my best not to be petty, but your action will only cause me to be suspicious of everyone. If you're a friend, I deserve to at least know what you think, don't I? Therefore, leave a name. :: nimezs @ 9:24 pm [+] :: ... :: Monday, May 02, 2005 :: Finished. 26 episodes. And yet... disatisfied and must read the manga now. The voice actor for Souma Kyo is fantastic. Incidentally, he did the voices of Sousuke Sagara in Full Metal Panic (which I've watched) and Toya Kinomoto in CCS (The Sealed Card). Gaaaah. I can't get over the way he read the lines. Funny that shows can produce more raw emotion than in real life. The first ten minutes of episode 26 has to be my favourite portion of the entire series. I am now completely for him to end up with the female protagonist. :: nimezs @ 2:50 am [+] :: ... :: Sunday, May 01, 2005 ::
I was so happy when you smiled, ![]() Some of the characters: (From left) Haru (I think), Momiji, Kyou and Touru. ![]() I've only watched 16 episodes, but I like it very much. It makes me so sad. If you've watched it before, you'll know what I mean. It's like a Japanese anime version of Pollyanna, except with the larger than life characters and all the magic, mystery and mayhem. It starts off with this story of a girl, Honda Touru, living in a tent after her grandfather goes off to live with relatives. Her parents are dead. She meets Souma Yuki, the "prince" of her school on the way to school one day and when he learns that she lives in the tent on their property, offers her a place to stay. The fun begins when she learns that the Soumas have a family secret - they are cursed with animal spirits and will transform into animals when hugged by normal human beings of the opposite sex. And because I'm a big softie, some episodes make me cry. =( It's all very sweet and sad and yet funny. *sigh* I love Kyo(u). :: nimezs @ 12:23 am [+] :: ...
